Description for B&B:
Nestled between history and legend lies the majestic Mt Viso, also known as the "stone king", standing tall at 3841 meters. This captivating mountain has enticed travelers throughout the ages, situated in the Marquisate region of Occitan territory, specifically in the Po valley, the source of Italy's longest river. In this land adorned with castles, abbeys, and monasteries, ancient mule tracks and dirt roads were once frequented by monks, merchants, knights, and even brigands. The legendary "road of salt" served as a vital route not only for people, but also for the transport of salt, anchovies, oil, spices, textiles, and other goods into France. A notable feature in this area is the "Mt Viso hole," an irregular tunnel measuring 75 meters in length, located beneath the Traversette col at an altitude of 2882 meters. This tunnel was created for the passage of loaded mules and stooped men.
Merchants from Dauphiné, Provence, and Burgundy would journey from farm to farm, crossing the Alps, descending hills, and reaching the plains. Many travelers would stop at the ancient inn managed by Virginia, who warmly greeted her guests with a smile, a hot meal, and the comforting warmth of the fireplace.
Presently, after extensive restoration, the "Virginia" agriturismo reopens its doors. Inside, guests will be immersed in the rustic and inviting ambiance of the past, surrounded by stone, wood, terracotta, and antique furnishings. The rooms exude a warm, rural charm with their wooden and wrought-iron beds, wardrobes, desks, and curtains reminiscent of the Occitan boiserie found in historical mansions.
The agriturismo offers ample common spaces dedicated to guests, including a cozy sitting area, a breakfast and dining room, and a library with a fireplace for ultimate relaxation. Additionally, a spacious cellar awaits, where visitors can sample wines and taste the authentic products of the Occitan region.
This enchanting and captivating place allows guests to reconnect with themselves and rediscover forgotten traditions and cultures. With six double rooms, one triple room, all with en-suite facilities, buffet breakfast, TV, telephone, fax, and internet access, as well as a free private car park, the Virginia offers a comfortable stay. The agriturismo also provides the opportunity to indulge in typical products, some of which are produced on their own farm. Furthermore, a wine cellar and a library dedicated to wine and food are available for guests' enjoyment. Excursions and events can also be organized upon request.
Imagine the pleasure of tasting freshly baked bread from a wood oven and savoring fresh milk sourced from cows grazing on the alpine pastures of Mt Viso. The Virginia believes that life's joys are even better when shared with friends.
