Description for B&B:
Until 1872, the gardens of the St Laurent convent, a Benedictine convent for women, occupied the location where this house now stands. Today, the former convent has been transformed into apartments called Residences of the Abbey. The house is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from the Bourges Cathedral.
During the revolution, the grounds were sold, and Mr. Alphonse-Joseph Charmeil, an art teacher at the Royal Middle School of Bourges and the founder of the Bourges Museum, bought the land. He then constructed this unique house in the style of Napoleon III. In 1878, he added a kiosk and two separate houses to the garden, all adorned with beautiful marble decorations.
Originally, the marble decorations were part of the choir tour of the St Pierre Le Marché church, which was built in 1760 and is now known as the Notre-Dame church. These original marble decorations can still be seen today and are protected as a registered historical feature.
