ENVIRONMENT, VIEW, AND NEIGHBORHOOD: The cottage is located in a tranquil countryside hamlet, nestled on the outskirts of a picturesque woodland, with only fifteen inhabitants (and just as many deer or wild boar, if you're lucky enough to spot them in the garden). There are no neighboring properties, providing unobstructed views of the surrounding countryside.The cottage is attached to the owner's house, but has a separate entrance, ensuring complete independence for guests.
INSIDE AND OUTSIDE FEATURES: The cottage is charming and cozy, featuring a spacious main living area measuring 30 square meters with a 4-meter-high ceiling. The living area includes a well-equipped kitchen and dining area with a gas hob, oven, fridge-freezer, microwave, and washing machine. It also boasts a wood-burning stove for added warmth and atmosphere. A large bay window opens onto a covered balcony measuring 6 square meters, facing south and offering lovely views.
The living area is overlooked by a mezzanine under the roof, spanning 18 square meters and furnished in a dormitory style. It includes two beds, one measuring 120 cm and the other partitioned with blackout curtains, measuring 140 cm. Additionally, there is a spacious 2-square-meter wardrobe. Adjacent to the mezzanine, also under the roof, is a 6-square-meter bathroom with a shower, sink, toilet, and a generously sized closet. WiFi access is available, and if needed, a changing table, cot, and high chair can be provided. Please note that sheets and towels are not supplied. Pets are accepted under certain conditions.
LOCATION AND NEARBY CITIES: The cottage is conveniently located just 5 minutes from the center of Lavelanet. It is also within easy reach of various cities and attractions in the area, such as Montségur (13 km), Mirepoix (18 km), Camon (20 km), Foix (25 km), Tarascon (35 km), Pamiers (45 km), Carcassonne (60 km), St Girons, St Lizier, and the valleys of Couserans and Vicdessos (all just a few minutes' drive away). The region is known for its Cathar castles, medieval towns, and prehistoric sites. Additionally, Andorra, the sea, and Spain are all within a 1.5-hour drive.
ACTIVITIES AND RECREATION: The Ariège region offers a wide range of activities and recreational opportunities. These include canoeing, canyoning, rafting, hydro speed, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, swimming in water bodies, rivers, and mountain lakes, as well as tree climbing. The Olmes Mountains ski resort, located just 20 km away, also offers summer activities such as downhill mountain biking, zip lining, archery, and climbing. Natural attractions in the area include the underground river of Bouiche, Lake Montbel, the Frau gorges, Plateau de Beille, altitude lake, and the Luzenac talc quarry park with bamboo. Other notable sites include the intermittent Fontestorbes fountain, a tree climbing site, the Bélesta forest, and the Roquefort Les Cascades waterfalls.
For those interested in prehistory, there are several caves to explore, including the Niaux, Cow, Lombrives, Bédeilhac, and Maz dAzil caves, as well as the Prehistoric Park. History enthusiasts can delve into the region's rich past by visiting sites such as the cave church of Vals, abbeys, cathedrals, Romanesque churches, villages, and the numerous Cathar castles (19 of them nearby, including Montsegur, Roquefixade, Puivert, Quéribus, Peyrepertuse, and Puilaurens).
