Description for B&B:
The King of France, known as Saint Louis, began reclaiming Aquitaine, a part of his kingdom that had been under English rule for centuries. In 1638, the "seneschal," Lord of Mouillepied, had to pay homage to the Count of Taillebourg. During the 18th century, Château Mouillepied was expanded by Guillaume Clairins des Lauriers, the chief engineer of the Rochefort Arsenal and a Knight of Saint Michel. It transformed into a beautiful classical house with terraced gardens and ponds enclosed by aesthetically pleasing stone walls. The name "Mouillepied" originates from the numerous springs found on the property. The château is located two kilometers away from the charming historic village of Taillebourg, which was the site of the famous Battle of Taillebourg in 1242, depicted by Delacroix in 1837.Château Mouillepied offers accommodation options as a guest house, bed and breakfast, self-catering, and a three-star hotel. English is spoken at the property. Situated in Charente Maritime, the owners welcome guests to the château, which was constructed in the 15th and 18th centuries and has been restored while preserving its character. It provides modern comfort in the countryside, surrounded by the Romanic Saintonge region. The château is conveniently located 30 kilometers from Cognac and the Atlantic beaches of Royan and Île d'Oléron. It is also just 7 kilometers from Saintes on the left bank of the Charente River, near exit 35 of the A10 motorway from Paris to Bordeaux (110 km) and the A837 from La Rochelle Airport (65 km). The spacious and comfortable bedrooms overlook the park and feature en-suite bathrooms or shower rooms, toilets, and a range of amenities.
On the ground floor of the château, guests can relax in the public lounges, which are adorned with a fireplace. The orangerie offers a view of the serene and wooded landscape of the Charente. Guests can choose from a wide selection of teas and herbal teas, enjoy a cup of coffee, or have soft drinks, all of which are complimentary and available in the evening. The château provides extensive information about tourism in the area, including fishing, hiking, renting, and visiting vineyards, creating a pleasant environment for guests. In the park, there are two self-catering accommodations with central heating. Additionally, there are many restaurants located nearby.
