Located in the beautiful Poitou Charentes countryside, just 60 km south of the Loire, you'll find the charming medieval village of Airvault. At The Voltaire Bed and Breakfast, Jo Cottrell offers a warm and relaxed welcome in their stunning 19th Century mansion home.

The Voltaire is conveniently situated near the center of Airvault and boasts four spacious and individually designed double and twin bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. Our main priority is to ensure that you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay with us, whether it's for a single night, a few days, a week, or even longer. Many of our guests have been pleasantly surprised by the peaceful atmosphere and gentle air of The Voltaire, resulting in longer sleep than expected. As a result, we offer breakfast service until as late as 12pm.

Each of our guest bedrooms features a luxurious en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower. We provide thick bath sheets, hand towels, and handmade soaps for your convenience. The beds are either kingsize or twin singles and are adorned with 100% cotton bed linen and soft Egyptian cotton duvet covers with a high thread count. The mattresses are deep sprung, ensuring the perfect blend of support and comfort. If you're traveling with a child under 12, we can arrange for a temporary bed to be placed in your room. All rooms offer ample storage space for your belongings, as well as cozy easy chairs.

During your stay, you can also enjoy our cozy library, complete with an open fire for those winter evenings, where you'll find a selection of books and board games. If you prefer a cooler atmosphere, our sitting room provides a tranquil space to relax.

When the weather permits, we encourage our guests to take advantage of our outdoor spaces. Our walled garden at the back of the property basks in the morning sun, providing the perfect spot for a leisurely breakfast on the lawn. As the sun moves, the garden becomes shaded during the hottest part of the day, offering a cooler oasis. At the front of the house, we have a raised swimming pool, available during the warmer months, which enjoys sunlight throughout the day and is a true sun trap.

Our continental breakfast includes freshly baked croissants and baguettes from a local bakery, Airvault honey, homemade marmalade and conserves, fruit juice, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Upon request, we can also provide evening meals, consisting of four courses, wine and/or soft drinks, and coffee, for 22 euros per adult and 12 euros per child under 12. We strive to use seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, ensuring a varied dining experience that reflects the time of year. If you'd like, we can arrange picnic lunches with advance notice.

Our location in this idyllic and unspoiled part of France offers an abundance of sunshine, with annual sunshine levels second only to the Côte d'Azur. Additionally, we are nestled in the heart of the largest sunflower growing region in France. Airvault itself boasts stunning architecture and a range of amenities within a short walk, including bakeries, butchers, restaurants, bars, banks with ATMs, a chemist, and a local market every Saturday morning selling fresh produce.

Surrounded by historic towns and villages, breathtaking countryside, and swimming lakes, The Voltaire provides easy access to major attractions such as Futuroscope, a virtual reality theme park, Vallée des Singes, a monkey park where you can roam freely with the monkeys, Puy du Fou, a medieval theme park with spectacular shows, and La Venise Verte, the intricate waterway system of the Marais Poitevins that can be explored by flat-bottomed boats. Additionally, being only 60 km south of the Loire Valley, there are numerous chateaux and vineyards waiting to be discovered.
